FAQ

General

Any type of flooring can work well with pets, whether it's laminate, hybrid, high-pressure, or engineered timber flooring. If you need a reliable and durable option with excellent water resistance, laminate flooring is a strong choice. For a more hard-wearing alternative, high-pressure flooring offers superior durability and water resistance. Hybrid flooring is another great option, providing full waterproofing with good durability. Engineered timber flooring is also suitable but requires more maintenance and care. To keep your floors looking new, regularly trim your pets’ nails and paws to minimize wear and tear.

The best flooring for a high-traffic, busy family is Norwegian high-pressure flooring, renowned for its exceptional strength. It's highly resistant to scratches, dents, stains, and fading, while also being extremely water-resistant. If you're looking for a more budget-friendly option, European-made laminate flooring is a great choice, offering excellent durability and water resistance. For families with significant water exposure, hybrid flooring is another suitable alternative, combining water resistance with practicality.

The choice between laminate, hybrid, and engineered timber flooring depends on your preferences and circumstances. Laminate flooring is an excellent cost-effective option, offering durability, water resistance, and a look and feel similar to timber. If you need a floor that is 100% waterproof with moderate durability, hybrid flooring is a great solution. For those seeking a premium option, engineered timber flooring provides the unmatched authenticity, warmth, and feel of real timber.

The level of colour variation in your flooring will depend on the type of product you choose. Man-made options like hybrid and laminate flooring typically have less variation between planks, though some colours may show more variation than others. Engineered timber flooring, with its real timber surface, naturally offers greater variation in grain, shades, and knots, adding unique character to each plank.

When deciding between dark and light-coloured flooring, consider the atmosphere you want to create in your home. Light-coloured floors can brighten your space and create a sense of openness, while dark-coloured floors add warmth and coziness, making your home feel more inviting. Ultimately, the most important factor is choosing a colour that you personally find most appealing.

A thicker floor isn’t always superior to a thinner one—it depends on the quality of the core. When both the thicker and thinner floors have cores of the same quality and density, the thicker floor can provide greater stability, improved sound reduction, and enhanced locking strength.

To calculate the amount of flooring required, measure the total area of the space and add an extra 8-10% to account for wastage.

Underlay is essential for floating floors and serves a crucial role in their performance. Some underlays include a plastic layer that acts as a moisture barrier, protecting the floor from swelling caused by moisture from underneath. Additionally, high-quality acoustic underlay enhances floor stability and significantly reduces impact noise.

The suitability for underfloor heating for your flooring depends on the manufacturer's specifications. You can find this information on the product page under 'Installation / Maintenance'.

The lifespan of laminate flooring depends on two key factors: the Abrasive Class (AC) rating and the quality of the High-Density Fiberboard (HDF) core. The AC rating reflects how well the top surface resists wear and tear, while the HDF core contributes to the floor’s stability, resistance to swelling, and dent resistance.

For laminate flooring that meets European standards, you can generally expect the following lifespans:

  • AC3: Around 10 years.
  • AC4: Approximately 20–25 years.
  • AC5: 30+ years.
  • AC6: Exists in the Norwegian High-Pressure Flooring, this option is designed to last a lifetime and is exceptional for heavy commercial use.

In modern residential projects, AC4 is often the baseline for durability, while AC5 and AC6 are preferred by those seeking superior protection and longevity.

These estimates are based on residential use, and actual lifespans may vary depending on factors such as maintenance, foot traffic, and environmental conditions.

When purchasing high-quality laminate flooring, consider these essential factors:

  1. High-Quality HDF Core
High-Quality HDF cores uses superior materials and are more compressed and dense. This enhances the flooring's impact resistance, durability, and resistance to moisture and water damage.
  2. Abrasive Class (AC) Rating
The AC rating reflects the wear resistance of the top layer. Higher AC ratings indicate greater durability and longevity. For residential spaces, an AC4 rating or higher is recommended to ensure a long-lasting floor.
  3. Reputable Brand
Choose a laminate floor from a trusted and reputable brand. Established brands uphold strict manufacturing standards, ensuring high-quality products that are free from hazardous chemicals. Additionally, they offer reliable warranties for added assurance.

By focusing on these factors, you can confidently select a laminate floor that combines visual appeal with exceptional quality and durability.

When installing a new floor, it's important to account for wastage. Generally, you should order an additional 8-10% of flooring to ensure you have enough material.

Absolutely! Many of our flooring options are engineered with a click system for easy DIY installation. Since different products from various brands have unique locking systems and requirements, we recommend following the manufacturer's specific instructions to ensure a successful installation. Additionally, be sure to pay close attention to two key factors: the levelness of your floor and using the recommended expansion gaps.

You can install your flooring over any subfloor as long as it is solid and levelled.

We recommend installing your flooring parallel to the longest side of your walls. This approach enhances the aesthetic of your space by creating a smooth, natural flow. It can also make your home appear larger and more open.

A general rule of thumb is to leave an expansion gap of 8–10 mm around the edges of the walls. This applies to all types of flooring to accommodate for expansion and contraction of the floor caused by changes in humidity and temperature.

All flooring types, including laminate, hybrid, and engineered timber, can be used immediately after installation. However, if the floor has been sanded and polished, please wait 2 days before use.

Maintenance

To keep your floor looking its best for years to come, use a damp microfiber mop to gently remove dust and dirt. If you prefer, a damp regular mop will also work, but be sure to avoid excess water. Prolonged exposure to moisture can damage the timber over time.

As every manufacturer advises against using steam mops on their flooring products, we also share the same recommendation. Prolonged use of a steam mop can lead to damage over time, compromising the integrity of your floors. Please note that using a steam mop on your flooring will void your warranty.

The best way to protect your floor is by applying felt pads to the bottom of heavy furniture. This simple step helps prevent scratches and damage, especially when moving furniture. It also guards against potential harm caused by debris like rocks or sand that may get trapped underneath.
